Never mind the impossibility of the task - I shall walk one step at a time. India shall see my experiment of SELF SUSTAINING SPORTS EDUCATION PROGRAMME incorporated in the educational system of a large school.
SPORTS EDUCATION FOR EACH CHILD - UNITS - GROUPS - COMMANDS
A unit of ten children will be mentored by a 7th standard student [FULLY TRAINED FOR THIS ROLE]. A group of ten units [100 students] would be mentored by a 10th standard student [FULLY TRAINED FOR THIS ROLE]. FORTY FOUR GROUP INCHARGES will provide SPORTS EDUCATION to 4400 students. FOUR SPORTS COMMANDERS [SENIOR VOLUNTEERS - EITHER TEACHERS OR EX-STUDENTS OR PROFESSIONAL COACHES OR ? ?]will control ELEVEN GROUPS [1100 students]. The number taken by me is for a specific school in Bangalore. This can be varied according to our choice.
DEVELOPING HAND AND EYE CO-ORDINATION from early child-hood through various fun games. The brighter ones are put on tougher variables. The brightest are pushed to highest levels. Competitions are regularly held to ensure sustained interest.
THE SKIPPING ROPE REVOLUTION - A simple skipping rope can provide endless joy and very high level of fitness. I have seen more than ONE HUNDRED different drills done with the skipping rope. This can be substituted by other materials - small or big balls, rings, batons etc to create enhanced interest.
THE GAMES PERIOD - Proper allocation of at least ONE GAMES PERIOD every day FOR EVERY CHILD in which specific skill enhancement is to be done. This can be complimented by providing weekend activities for different groups at different times. Those who are seriously interested in pursuing for competitive level - they can use extra time on Sundays or holidays.
CHILD DRIVEN PROGRAMME - When a child enjoys the games period - the learning will be enhanced. Initial teething problems must be squarely sorted out. A change in the mindset THAT IT CAN BE DONE must be driven home.
THE ACADEMIC TEACHERS must understand the SPORTS EDUCATION PROGRAMME because without their support it will not succeed. They must be made to understand that SPORTS enhances intelligence and increases focus.
REGULAR EXERCISE would give enormous benefits to the health of the children and we may yet see PARENTS DEMANDING SPORTS FOR THEIR CHILDREN.
These are very sketchy details. An elaborate project report which will mention the minutest details would be prepared very shortly for receiving FEEDBACK and INPUTS.
IF THE MIND IS WILLING THE SKY IS THE LIMIT. I had once conducted an enthralling basketball learning programme for 1300 children. Only recently I conducted a THREE DAY basketball learning programme at J.N.V. LEPAKSHI for 600 students. THIS CAN BE REPLICATED FOR ANY GAME - and by having variety of games - the children have a choice to adopt the game they love.

SHACKLES OF INDIAN SPORTS
subject:orkut - `CODE OF CONDUCT' FOR MATCHES. SHACKLES OF INDIAN SPORTS!

Subhash:
Sports in India has `invisible shackles' - one of them is refereeing. Better teams are made to lose matches by use of `whistle' as the extra player.
I have stopped going to see the basketball matches - because the game is so `suitable' for manipulation. That is why it is important to have `links' if you want to win. Just pick up the statistics of last 25 years - you will find TEAMS having LINKS keep coming back to win maches with aplomb. What do you expect when the referee is either from the same club - or is a friend - or is a relative.
We are all to be blamed - including me - because the desire to see our people win is so strong that we ignore the fact that by making lesser teams win - INDIA LOSES! At a higher level it is difficult to `cheat' because too many people are watching. BUT EVEN THERE THE BIAS IS CLEARLY VISIBLE!
But my heart breaks when I see highly talented younger players being called for `violations' that they didn't commit. I have seen it too many times. I have cried often! That is why I stopped attending matches because I CAN'T TAKE IT.
IF YOU CAN TAKE IT - YOU KNOW THE REASON WHY INDIAN SPORTS IS WHAT IT IS! Is there any way we can correct it?

THE TRUE INDIANS
Where are the people with a mission to serve the country? People tell me they are amazed at me and my actions.
I am surprised. My up-bringing and my education made me what I am today. Fired by national zeal my grandfather named me Subhash - pragmatism in my approach has come from parents - rare teachers instilled in me the `desire' to be honest and a `fire in my belly' to do something for my great country.
At 56, I am playing basketball - I am teaching basketball - I am living basketball. What more could I desire? Even if I train 100 children every weekend still it will only be 52,000 by the end of the year - THE YEAR 2009 is the year of SUMPOORNA BASKETBALL. Can't I reach 1,00,000 children every year? If I live another 40 years - even then I will be able to reach only 4 million children.
WHAT ABOUT THE ALMOST HALF A BILLION CHILDREN I WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO REACH OUT TO?
A MISSION IMPOSSIBLE - YET I KNOW I WILL ACHIEVE IT! The twinkling eyes of the children are a reason enough to spend this life and the next life after this ----on this mission.

BEST IN THE WORLD INDIANS - CAN YOU DO SOMETHING FOR INDIA WHERE ITS' WORST IN THE WORLD!
We are proud of Indians who are world beaters; they sustain us in the belief that IF WE REALLY PUT OURSELVES, we can be the best in the world. Without denying them this right to be `icons of the nation', I have a humble suggestion.
SHOULD THEY NOT TAKE UP AND SUPPORT A ISSUE [other than their own field], in which their beloved country is worst in the world.
For example, it would be good if some of our cricketing icons took up the cudgels on behalf of other sports which are so sadly lacking. Their gesture would make them TRULY GREAT!
They could visit certain educational institutions which `restrict' all sports activity for the youth [in the name of C.E.T and destroy the golden years of sportsmanship] and explain that physical health is much more important than collecting degrees and jobs.
THAT A NATION OF A BILLION NEEDS TO BE ASS-KICKED by leading sportsmen to ensure that the fundamental right of the children to play is safeguarded.
I HAVE BEEN TRYING FOR THREE DECADES - even I need help!

MAKING INDIA A SPORTS SUPERPOWER-COUNTRY FIRST THEN ME!
SPORTS is no more `mere playing' - it has become a war zone - at least, that is how the leading sporting nations think. The will to win transcends individuals' need for excellence; millions of countrymen rooting for you is a heady sensation for every sportsman worth his salt.
IN INDIA, HOWEVER, INDIVIDUALS COME BEFORE THEIR COUNTRY! This mindset must change.
Having been involved with `grass root' sports for the last three decades - I have seen and known all the reasons as to WHY WE ARE WHAT WE ARE. We always have a reason for our `failures' - we don't believe in putting our house in order. Whoever can manipulate takes the cake.
The nexus of `favourites' - `influential' - `quota scavengers' - `overage cheaters' - `regional representations' etc. has destroyed Indian sports. Even the sports academies and other `centres of excellence' suffer from these maladies. All is fair for politicians as long as they get their SEAT and all is fair for sportspersons as long as they make the TEAM.
I have seen many `UNSUNG HEROES' of Indian sports - the voluntary coaches who donot get one single paisa for their effort - their only motivation is their love for the game and their wards. Their old and dusty track-suits and `stitched' shoes give them away; their sincerity is extraordinary. The `official coaches' have spick and span `REEBOK' shoes with the latest designer track suits.
WE DONOT HAVE PROPER GRASS-ROOT SPORTS! A player aspiring to be world class must begin his `focus' from childhood. In his or her teens the player must jostle among his seniors at an equal footing and as a youth must stamp his class at national level or even international level. We donot have `scouts' who identify such players. We have brokers who `promise' CET SEAT; GOVT JOB - in return for `hidden' favors. So it begins ME - ME - ME and India is forgotten.
THIS COUNTRY THAT HAS GIVEN ME BIRTH - THIS COUNTRY THAT IS MY MOTHER - THIS COUNTRY THAT IS MINE - Let me make my country the greatest in the sporting world and to that end let me sacrifise all - my mind, my body and my wealth.
SUMPOORNA is my battle cry - providing training facilities for basketball for those who donot have the opportunity - providing joy to the young sports persons - motivating them for excellence. Let them be in any nook and corner of India - we promise them opportunity to serve the nation by becoming a great sportsperson.
